For the last few months, work has looked a whole lot different for everyone. Companies have figured out how to get people up and running virtually. For a lot of people, they’re more productive at home than they were in the office. I don’t know what the new normal will look like when people have to be back in an office. What I do know is for many entrepreneurs, this work at home life is not a new thing.
It can be hard to stay focused and on task when you have all the distractions of home. It’s easy to feel like you should throw a load of clothes in the laundry or mop a floor. It’s also easy to hit the snooze because – what commute!? So how do successful entrepreneurs pull it off? Keep reading to ideas to help your stay at home work like whether it’s temporary or your new normal.
1 – Get up early and do something not work related. Around here that looks like working out. It can be taking some time to drink your morning coffee before you jump into a bunch of emails. You could have some quiet time to meditate or read. Fill your cup before you pour yourself into your work day.
2 – Set real hours for yourself. Working from home makes it easy for things to blend together. Setting hours is a great way to set boundaries. The hard part is sticking with those hours. There is a book that talked about setting the tone for what is expected of you at work. If you answer emails at all hours you’ll be expected to be available at all hours. If you have hours set and you stick by them, it makes it easier for people to respect them.
3 – Set big and small goals for each day. Maybe you want to reach out to a number of potential clients each day. It could be that you have so many deadlines to meet or you need to get started creating a program. Whatever the goals are, make a plan with details about what needs to happen to check these things off your list.
4 – Outsource when you can. If you hate doing it, find someone else who would love to do it. Maybe social media isn’t your jam or copywriting just doesn’t flow for you. Delegate the things that you can and stick with the things you love to do. If you can’t give those tasks to someone else to do, then do them first. Do the worst first. The rest of your day will be easier because you’ve done the hardest things off the top.
5 – No comparison. You’re not allowed to compare yourself to someone else’s job or someone else’s business. Run your race. At whatever pace, know that progress is progress.
