Some people get in the Christmas spirit the day after Thanksgiving. It’s like a light switch moment where leftovers are put away and the Christmas tree goes up. Just like that, they’re in the holiday mood. That’s not the story around here. Being based in Southern California, it can be hard to mark Every year, there is one song that symbolizes the real start of the holiday season around here. That being said, there are some songs that you just have to hear every Christmas. Here’s the list of some of our favorites that just give you all the Christmas feels!
The first one HAS to be Silent Night by the Temptations. When you hear, “in my mind…”, Christmas is officially ON!
A close second is probably a tie between This Christmas by Donny Hathaway. It’s just such a feel good song. Everybody thinks they can sing their face off when it comes up. Right next to that is The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole. It’s been a staple forever at this point.
Stevie Wonder is always good for a little hope. His song, Someday at Christmas just makes you want to believe in the good in the world. It gives you reason to hold out hope for “someday”.
We never knew that once she stepped on the scene with Vision of Love that Mariah Carey would be the queen of Christmas. If she never makes another song again in her life, her Christmas album has her set! I don’t know anyone who doesn’t LOVE All I Want For Christmas Is You. It’s a forever bop if ever there was one.
Recently there was a video of Boyz to Men singing Let It Snow. Their duet with Brian McKnight is a certified classic. Especially if you’re in love… this is the Christmas song for you! Snuggle up!
You can always count on Luther Vandross for something smooth and he doesn’t disappoint with Every Year, Every Christmas. Ugh. Miss him so much.
A recent find for us is a good one by Joe. Christmas in New York gets us all in the feels… and makes us want to take a trip to NYC. Oh, to be able to travel to NYC again.
You can’t help but think of fun, Christmas memories when TLC’s Sleigh Ride comes on. It just has this fun, contagious energy. It’s not your typical Christmas song but that might be what makes it so good.
We’re going to round this list out with a beauty from our fave, Whitney Houston. One of our favorites from The Preacher’s Wife soundtrack is Who Would Imagine A King. It’s a beautiful song and it’s just peaceful from beginning to end. Around this time of year, with all the chaos, we could certainly all use a little peace.
Bonus: When Christmas Comes by Mariah Carey… all the feels
