It women’s history month and this week we celebrated international women’s day. All over the internet we were being celebrated and acknowledged for being women. The group chat of every squad you know was in full “hey girl, I see you” mode. Here’s hoping that celebration keeps up. We’re amazing no matter the day of the week. We really need the rest of the world to remember that.
While we love to be acknowledged, we also have to take time to see each other. It’s so necessary to let your squad know how you feel. Staying tight with our girlfriends has been much harder over this pandemic. Still, we’ve been finding ways to stay connected and tight with our peeps.
As life starts to speed up a bit again, we have to be intentional about making time for our squad. The secret sauce is to be intentional and to be consistent. We’ve had girlfriend catch up sessions over Zoom and Skype. Every now and then a wine day with friends is a whole vibe – especially after a long week.
When we talk about being intentional – we think the way we schedule time for working, exercising and all the other things we do. We have to schedule that downtime and that includes time for your squad.
Of course we have options of how we get together. It doesn’t just have to be a Zoom, a phone call can do the trick to keep us connected. Making the time to connect with people who get us and give us the space to real is priceless. Speaking of getting together, we’re getting creative with how we make that happen. We’ve seen Zoom birthday parties and drive by baby showers. All these things go a long way in celebrating each other and making sure our friends know how special they are to us.
While it could be easy for friendships to fall off in times like this, they don’t have to. If we’re intentional about making time for each other as well as giving each other space when needed, it will be easier to not skip a beat when outside is open. Hopefully, soon!
