I didn’t know what to expect from this book. I think I had just seen it mentioned in various places and decided to check it out. That’s usually how it goes with me. If the cover looks interesting or the title is intriguing- I’ll give it a go. If I keep seeing it up and down my timeline – I’m definitely reading it.
The Reading List focuses on an older man who is widowed. He’s not particularly close to his family. His wife was more the one who kept the family close. He’s at a loss and seeks to find more of who she is through a list of books of hers he’s found. While he’s never been a reader, he is determined to find out what it is his wife sees in these books. As a result, his trips to the library literally change his life.
He connects with a young girl there who is in need of a father figure because her home life is lacking. Through the reading list, they connect and discover more about themselves and each other. Throughout the book, the reading list seems to show up just when someone really needs it. I took a picture of the list to read the books myself. A few of the books mentioned are Beloved, The Kite Runner and To Kill a Mockingbird.
