Every year we take a day to be celebrated, appreciated and shown some extra love. It’s pretty much Mom’s day off. For many of us that looks like brunch or dinner out with the the family. The kids give cards and gifts. Some are gifts they’ve made at school or maybe someone took them shopping for a little trinket. The husband will offer a lovely gift and then we’re done. Mom get the rest of the day to do what she likes.
What we’ve been hearing more and more is that Moms want something different. They want the day to themselves completely. There have been stories of Moms who book a hotel room to wake up on Mother’s Day by themselves. They take this opportunity to treat themselves to room service and spa treatments and naps. It’s a day to do what pleases them, free from the responsibility of mothering for one day.
Every Mom is different
That’s the thing. Every Mom is different and wants something different. It doesn’t have to be traditional to be right. What we do know is most Moms are exhausted. The list of things to do that line our brains is overflowing. We remember all the doctors appointments, practice schedules, teacher conferences, homework, tutor meetings, play dates, clothes and shoe sizes for multiple people, meal plans and a list of other things. A day off from all of that can sound like a vacation. A day spent snuggling with the people who make us Moms is it’s own sort of vacation as well.
When it comes to what we want for Mother’s Day, jewelry is good, dinner is good, a little shopping spree or a spa day is always a win. While these are all great, one thing every Mom wants above it all is probably rest. However you choose to spend the day, we hope rest in on the menu. That’s one thing we know all Moms need.
